Techo Hun Sen Advises Military Strategy Amidst Border Clashes with Thailand

Phnom Penh, July 26, 2025 — Former Prime Minister Hun Sen is actively involved in advising military strategy to Prime Minister Hun Manet and the armed forces as tensions escalate along the border with Thailand, according to a social media post by his spokesperson, Chea Rithy, this evening.

Chea Rithy’s statement indicated that Techo Hun Sen, despite his transition from leading the government, continues to provide strategic guidance as a senior logistics officer for the army. “On the third day of the enemy invasion, Techo Sen, former Prime Minister, continues to advise Prime Minister Hun Manet and the generals on military strategy,” Chea Rithy wrote.

The spokesperson emphasized Techo Hun Sen's unwavering dedication, stating that the former Prime Minister has been contributing his expertise despite limited rest. “[Hun Sen] has been able to sit and provide strategies and energy with energy and sharpness to our heroic army. Techo Sen's spirit is with our fighters at all times,” the post read.

Techo Hun Sen, who has spent a significant portion of his life involved in military affairs, reportedly views the current conflict as a critical moment. He emphasized that "the most proud battle is the battle to defend the ancestral land against foreign invaders, which is different from the battle between Cambodians."
